TEHRAN (FNA) -- Iran and Kuwait are cooperating closely in their fight against drug trafficking, a senior Kuwaiti official said.

Upon his arrival here in Tehran to attend the Third International Conference on Drug-fighting, director general of Kuwait’s Drugs Control General Department Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Khalifa Al-Sabah described current cooperation between the two countries as “good,” and said, “We hope to upgrade it to higher levels during this visit.”
Al-Sabah thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting such conferences, which, he said, explore means of combating the trafficking of drugs in general and heroin in particular.
He said the conference would highlight means to combat heroin trafficking, and noted that the event was a major initiative to curb trafficking of the deadly substance.
Kuwait’s participation in the conference demonstrates its belief in the significance of the issue, he said, adding that a large Kuwaiti delegation is participating in the conference.
At least 29 countries and four international organizations concerned with fighting drugs are taking part in the conference which commenced work here on Tuesday.
